Faces In Things

For this lesson of creative thinking class,
we were given some time to go around the school campus to look for faces in things.
Things that were originally placed in that way before we go by to take photos.
Basically, none of us were allowed to set up the 'faces' ourselves.

Many of the photos had no nose or mouth but it looked like a face when seen as a whole so...

This was taken outside the student lounge in level 3.
The two chairs act as the eyes, and the cushion act as the nose or the mouth.
I don't know why the cushion was on the floor but it was there so i took the photo.

This is part of a study bench placed outside the student lounge as well.
The two screws act as the eyes, and the round handle as the nose or mouth.

From here, the pictures are taken in the student lounge.
I am not exactly sure what the items are.
But the black circular part is the eyes, and the end of the umbrella in black acts as the nose or mouth.

The round chair act as the eyes, and the rectangular shaped chair act as the nose or mouth.

The two round seats represents the eyes, followed by the book which represents the nose, and the table as the mouth.

This is a running machine.
The orange areas that is used to place personal items or water bottle act as the eyes, followed by the small round orange magnet as the nose, and the white bar as the mouth.

The two easels act as the eyes, and the red cushion as the mouth or the nose.

This picture was taken in the bridge that connects wing A and B.
The two round screws act as the eyes, the whole thick bar as the nose, connecting the round bottom which acts as the mouth.

This was taken from the bridge i mentioned in the previous photo.
The two small roads that connects from the big road act as the eyes.
Followed by the yellow bar which is then nose, and the yellow and black striped road which is the mouth.

Finally, this was taken in the handicapped toilet.
The two soap holder is the eyes, and the sink which acts as the mouth and the nose.

In conclusion, i had fun going around the campus to look for faces in things.

Sensorium 360°

Visited the Sensorium 360° exhibition at Singapore Art Museum during class a few weeks back.
Sensorium 360° is an exhibition of contemporary art that calls upon
the complexity of the 5 human senses and explores how these sensory experiences locate us in
understanding the world and knowing the self.

Immediately as we entered the exhibition, the walls at every side were filled with different quotes in relation to the exhibition theme.
Among all the quotes, i liked this one;

'It is not a fragrant world' - Raymond Chandler

A part in the exhibition was to smell different types of scent.
As for the picture above, it is said in the description that the different scents that were placed in each test tube creates sound when put in line together.
True enough, it actually did make some noise!
For the scent of the liquids, it was really strong and piercing.
So,,,i did not really find it pleasuring to smell.

There was this small bowl of coffee bean placed next to the room which had a variety of strong scents.
The coffee bean is supposed to help in getting rid of the scent from our noses.
I think the colour of the coffee beans were very pretty.

The image above was taken in a small room after one part of the exhibition.
It asked ' How do you feel today? ' and there were those shiny round papers and some markers for us to write how we felt that day and hang them up.
Mine were the ones with '-JLSY' written on it.

Moving on to another room..

The picture above totally explains what the exhibits were in the room.

In the last room, there were different scents available for us to smell.
The walls were filled with drawings and pictures.
The drawings looked sketchy but well done.

In conclusion, i think that this exhibition allowed the class and myself to experience the five senses ourselves. I enjoyed the exhibits very much as it was very interesting.

First Exhibition Visit

I can't really remember the exact date, but it was definitely the first exhibition visit our class had since school started.
It was during 2D Fundamentals class. We went to a small exhibition at Singapore Arts Museum, which was about 10-15 min walk away from school! :-)

The hall was pretty small but the exhibited works there were interesting.
I heard from our lecturer that some of the works are done by NAFA students.

The exhibition have already ended.

From the picture, i think that this work was done using markers and pens.
It is a well-done work because the artist was able to show the shadows and draw out the fine details just by using a black pen.
I think that the artist would have taken quite a while to complete this because the work has to been done neatly as it is a cartoon drawing.

The 2 pictures above are paper works.
Paper works need a lot of time and effort because the proportion has to be precise and accurate.
Anyone who wants to do paper work will need to have patience.

Above works done in black ink were the most interesting part of the exhibition.
Also, it took up most of the space in the exhibition hall, which shows the quality of the work.
The drawing done on the floor connects to the chairs, tables, and the papers that were laid out together.
The title of this work was 'DROP EVERYTHING AND DOODLE', which clearly shows in the work itself.
The work consisted of drawings that looked like doodles.
However, though it could just be considered as a 'doodle' by some people, i personally think that the doodles formed up a eye-catching work.
Despite the artwork done in black and white, it does attract the eyes of people because of its size and creativity.

This artwork was put up with drawings of a woman in different types of masks or headbands representing different ideas.
The work was done by pen.
I think that the artist would have taken a long time doing this work as it would have been time consuming to draw the features of the face to look similar to each other.
Although there could have been other ways of drawing out the face, the work needs accuracy to complete it without flaws.

Among the drawings, this was my favourite because it looks feminine with the roses on the head.

All in all, i think that this exhibition was a great in a way that it gave us ideas and inspirations for future use when doing our assignments.
