For this lesson of creative thinking,
the class was divided into groups to buy something that have flaw(s) in the packaging.
We went to the nearest 7-Eleven from school and bought 3 packets of potatochips.
Above is the picture of the potato chips taken together.
The flaws of the packaging are:
1. The photo of the potato chips in the 3 packets are all the same
2. The packaging is way too plain to attract buyers
3. The fonts on the packaging are pretty small
4. The image of the potato chips taken does not look appetising
5. The overall design of the packaging is not eye-catching
6. The colours on the 2 ends of the packaging does not make sense (why must the barbecue flavor be brown and why must the sour cream & onion flavor be in green?)
7. The font is too main stream, not creative
8. The packaging states the obvious. (Yes, it is a potato chip, but why cant the packaging have more creativity in the words they use?)
9. The picture does not fit into the list of ingredients
10. There are not enough colours in the packaging
Moving on, we were asked to exchange a product with another group and state the flaws for the packaging. This was to see if different people actually think of the same flaws and see the problem in the packaging.
These are the flaws of this packaging:
1. Some words are not understandable
2. There are Chinese words that some people might not understand
3. Unrealistic illustration
4. The material of the packaging is plastic, hence making it hard to keep the food air-tight during storage
5. The title might be hard to pronounce for some people
6. The pictures of the seaweed does not look appetising
7. The plastic packaging might make a lot of noise
8. Easily crumpled packaging
Afterwards, we had to design and make our own packaging that is different and more creative than the original packaging.
The 2 images above shows the potato chip packaging that my group-mates and i made.
It is supposed to be in the shape of a potato with velvet-like material on the outside just like an actual potato.
This is a packaging that one of the groups made for chocolates.
This is the packaging improved from the seaweed packaging.
Instead of the usual dory and disgusting looking cigarette box, this group changed the packaging to a cute image.
Above is an improved version of the chocolate packaging.
The packaging made above is to improve the original snack bar packaging.
Finally, the above picture is of a cake making tool.
In conclusion, i really enjoyed myself doing this group work as we were able to brainstorm for new ideas on how to improve a packaging on our own.
The plus point of this group project was that we were not restricted on any ideas!!
